Elections chief exploring City Council run against Republican City Councilman Brian O’Neill, whose 10th district covers most the Northeast, could be opposed by the city’s elections chief in next year’s race for City Council.
Bill Rubin, elections supervisor for the Philadelphia Board of Elections, has established an exploratory committee, which allows him to raise money and keep his job but is not a declaration as a candidate. Rubin, formerly a member of District Council 33, the city’s blue-collar union, is the vice-chairman of the Philadelphia Board of Pensions and Retirement, elected by city pensioners.
Rubin, 43, a Democrat from the far Northeast, has been a city employee since 1989.Rubin will have to quit his job once he formerly declares for the May primary.”The campaign is looking forward to a spirited debate with the current Councilman,” Rubin said.O’Neill could not reached for comment Wednesday.
